contact.devotellix@gmail.comBalancing FAQs
- What is hydraulic balancing? In an unbalanced system, water flows to the easiest path, causing nearby radiators to overheat while distant ones stay cold. Balancing restricts flow to closer radiators to push hot water further out.
- What is a lockshield valve? It is the valve usually at the bottom of the radiator under a plastic cap, adjusted with an Allen key or wrench to lock the maximum water flow rate.
- How do I measure the Delta T (ΔT)? Measure the temperature of the inlet pipe (flow) and the outlet pipe (return) on each radiator using an infrared or contact thermometer. The difference is your Delta T.
- What target Delta T should I use? Standard boilers target 10-12°C. Condensing boilers target 15-20°C (to ensure cooler return water for condensation). Heat pumps target 5-8°C (for maximum efficiency).
- What if my lockshield valve is stuck? Do not force it. Spray penetrant oil (WD-40), tap it gently, or consult a plumber to avoid breaking the valve spindle.
